PROCEEDINGS OF THE STURGIS CITY COUNCIL – APRIL 14, 2008

 

The Common Council of the City of Sturgis met in continued session on Monday, April 14, 2008 at 6:00pm at Sturgis City Hall.  Present:  Mayor Maury LaRue, Alderpersons Steve Anders, Roger Call, Mark Chaplin, Tom Ferguson, David Hersrud, Jamie McVay, Sherry Scudder, Bernadette Usera.  Absent:  None.

 

At this time the council canvassed the votes of the Municipal election held on April 8, 2008.

 

Anders introduced the following written resolution and moved its adoption:

 

RESOLUTION 2007-17

A RESOLUTION CANVASSING THE ELECTION

 

            BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Sturgis, South Dakota, as follows:

            This is the time and place for canvassing the vote of the Annual City Election held on April 8, 2008.  All poll books were thoroughly examined and the votes cast were as follows:

 

For First Ward Alderman – Two Year Term     Mark Chaplin                45                 

                         Dave Rhoden                42

For Third Ward Alderman – Two Year Term      Roger K. Call                        89

                                                                      Clint Brengle                170

                                                                                                          259

 

For Fourth Ward Alderman – Two Year Term   Steve Anders             72

The results of the election of April 8, 2008 are hereby declared to be as follows:

            Mark Chaplin received a majority of the votes cast for First Ward Alderman, two-year term, and is hereby declared elected to that office

Sherry Scudder was unopposed for Second Ward Alderman, two-year term, and is hereby declared elected to that office.

            Clint Brengle received a majority of the votes cast for Third Ward Alderman, two-year term, and is hereby declared elected to that office.

            Dane Sundstrom received a majority of the votes cast for Fourth Ward Alderman, two-year term, and is hereby declared elected to that office.

            BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Finance Officer shall issue certificates of election to all elected candidates.

 

Dated this 14th day of April 2008.

 

Scudder seconded the motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution.  All those present voted in favor of and the resolution was declared passed and adopted.

 

At this time City Manager Dave Boone gave a presentation on Title 7 Ordinance/SDCL Title 9 – Transition meeting – implementation of the city Manager for of Government to the Council and Department heads.

 

Motion by Hersrud, second by Chaplin and carried to adjourn to executive session at 7:08 p.m. to discuss legal matters.

 

Motion by Chaplin, seconded by Ferguson and carried to come out of executive session and adjourn at 9:00 p.m.
