PROCEEDINGS OF THE STURGIS CITY COUNCIL – SEPTEMBER 29, 2005

Pursuant to notice and due call thereof, the Common Council of the City of Sturgis met in special session on Thursday, September 29, 2005 at 5:30pm at City Hall. Present: Mayor Mark Zeigler, Alderpersons Arvid Meland, Terry Jensen, Penny Green, Pokey Jacobson, Bev Patterson and Steve Anders. Absent: Sherry Scudder & Mark Chaplin.

Motion by Patterson, second by Green & carried to approve the special events license for the Friese/Freier wedding reception at the City Auditorium on Saturday, October 1, 2005 and to be served by Gunners.

Anders requested that it be noted in the minutes that these special meetings are getting to be the rule instead of the exception and that the bar owners need to be held responsible for getting these requests in to City Hall in a timely manner so that special meetings aren’t necessary. These are bad for the public because it does not really give them an opportunity for comment.

Mayor Zeigler advised that he would request City Attorney Keith Smit to write a letter to the liquor license bar owners and remind them of when the council meets and the process to follow in order to have a special events license. The letter is also to advise that the council does not wish to hold any more special meetings for special events licenses.

Motion by Meland, second by Green & carried to adjourn the meeting at 5:35pm.
