About the Project

The Kiwanis Food Pantry is a 501(c) 3 that serves the needs of recipients living in the greater Sturgis area, as well as those living in Whitewood, Piedmont and the Black Hawk areas.  The Food Bank is served by a six member Board of Directors and 22 volunteers from the local Kiwanis chapter.

For many years, the Food Bank has been housed in temporary facilities.  Most recently, the Food Bank was located in the basement of the Sturgis Auditorium.  For many years it has been a goal of the Pantry to find a permanent home with handicap access, adequate parking and enough room to meet their storage needs.

A $100,000 grant from the John T. Vucurevich Foundation along with generous donations from Sturgis businesses has helped make the goal of a permanent home a reality.  With help from the City of Sturgis a site has been selected and construction is underway.

The estimated completion date is January 1, 2015.
