On October 19, 2015 the Public Works Director gave a presentation to the City Council and the public regarding drainage issues along 1st Avenue.

The presentation also included information from a recent engineering report.  The report notes existing conditions, the causes for the conditions, and offers several options for minimizing the impact of stormwater drainage on private property and on public infrastructure. The report is not intended to be a Preliminary Design Report nor is it a Drainage Basin Design Report. The effort and detail required in those types of reports is beyond the scope of the initiative. This Concept Report provides City officials with a perspective of the issues, options for addressing those issues, and relative costs for implementing each of the options. The Probable Costs are not meant to be Construction Cost Estimates or Engineering Estimates. Those can only be
determined as a part of engineering design. However, this report is of sufficient detail for use in setting policy, scheduling capital improvements, and for budgetary purposes.
The Summary and Recommendation section provides a brief overview of each option and a recommendation. The recommendation is based on what is shown to provide the highest benefit for the cost.
The City Council will be considering this information as they consider future drainage improvements within the 1st Avenue area.

 Updates 

On November 9 a public meeting was held with members of the First Avenue area. Options for improvements were discussed and community members were able to have questions answered.

As a result of this meeting, the First Avenue neighborhood chose not to complete the repairs using tax assessment money on their properties.  The City will still complete some repairs regarding culverts and a retention pond in the neighborhood and will help owners who are interested in coordinating some self funded projects on their properties.
