The Sturgis Ambulance Service (of the City of Sturgis) struggles to recruit and retain qualified EMS employees. Our benefitted EMS employees participate in the South Dakota Retirement System pension, but our EMS employees are only Class A participants as they are not fire-fighters. Therefore, we are seeking to allow EMS employees to become Class B participants under SDRS. While this would include an additional 2% contribution to the SDRS, we fully believe that it would increase our ability to recruit and retain EMS professionals.
However, the South Dakota Retirement System, before it will even consider this change, requires information and data. So, we are asking you can fill out this simple webform. Even if your entity doesn't operate the Ambulance Service in your community, please fill out the form and indicate just that.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Shawn Fischer, Director of the Sturgis Ambulance Service, at (605) 347-5801 or shawnf@sturgisgov.com.
