Hosted by Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau
The 2020 Sturgis Volksmarch will take hikers into the Sturgis watershed area south of town to explore trails recently opened to the public. This area features a historic stone walking bridge, beautiful Black Hills scenery amidst Ponderosa Pines, and a breathtaking view of Sturgis from the starting and ending point. Hikers are invited to visit Belle Joli’ after hiking to relax, enjoy a mimosa, and browse their award-winning wine selection (open at 10am).
DIRECTIONS:
From I-90, take exit 32 into Sturgis. Turn south onto Vanocker Canyon Road and continue south until you see Belle Joli’ Sparkling House on your right (approximately 1 mile). Park on the side of the highway and proceed on foot to the hiker registration tent (please do NOT park in Belle Joli’s parking lot – this is reserved for their customers).
DETAILS:
Hikers can begin the Volksmarch anytime between 8am and 11am. All hikers must finish the hike or return to the starting point no later than 2pm. The Volkssport Association requires a fee of $3 per hiker, payable at the registration tent the day of the event. Hikers can choose to complete either a 5k or 10k option, which will both be marked.
This is a moderate-level hike; please refrain from bringing strollers or wheelchairs. Pets are allowed, but please keep them leashed. Water will be available at the registration booth, however, hikers should plan to bring a filled water bottle as well.
