The public is invited to attend a Sturgis City Council & Mayor Election Forum from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11 at the Meade County Erskine Building - Commissioners' Room (2nd Floor).

Candidates for City Council seats and Mayor are invited to attend. Francie Ruebel-Alberts will be moderating the event. The public will have the opportunity to ask questions as time allows. 

The city of Sturgis will have races in two of the four wards in the upcoming Sturgis Municipal Election scheduled for Tuesday, April 8.

Mark Chaplin and Dave Murtha will face off in Ward 3, and Terry Jensen and Steve Shuck will vie for the Ward 4 seat.

Those currently serving in the City Council positions are Alex Usera, Ward 1; Tony Dargatz, Ward 2; Mark Chaplin, Ward 3, and a Ward 4 seat that was vacated when Kevin Forrester became mayor.

That means Usera and Dargatz, along with Mayor Kevin Forrester are unopposed and their names will not be on the ballot for the April 8 election to be held at the Sturgis Community Center.

The event will be livestreamed on the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau Facebook page, technology permitting.
