Job Description:

This position is responsible for performing advanced and complex professional work in current and long-range planning, zoning, land use, and development for the City of Sturgis. The role involves providing exceptional service and fostering collaboration in all internal and external interactions. The individual will oversee and administer planning and development functions, including building services, in alignment with the City’s goals and policies. Key responsibilities include the implementation and enforcement of the City’s zoning ordinance, subdivision regulations, and comprehensive plan.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field; urban planning, regional planning, community planning, land-use planning, urban affairs, or a closely related field.
• Three – five years of progressively responsible planning experience in urban or community planning, including two years in a supervisory or management role. Some portion of the experience in a government-related position.
• American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP) certification or obtain within 12 months is desired.
