Job Title: Water Operator
Salary range: $23.21- $25.61 DOQE (with Class A CDL).
Location: PWD Campus (1057 Dudley Street, Sturgis)
Department: Public Works
Hours: Full-time (40 hours a week), non-exempt with overtime opportunities. Eligible for benefits.
Job Description:
Responsible to (i) ensure water quality throughout the entire water system; (ii) perform checks on the operation and maintenance of pumping facilities; (iii) complete routine maintenance service calls (i.e. minor water meter maintenance, tum-ons, turn-offs, high/low utilization questions, water leaks, and quality inspections); (iv) participate in the construction, maintenance and repair of water mains, water lines, pumps, wells, hydrants, valves, and related system components; and (v) assist with meter reading as required by staffing.
- Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Must be able to work in and around manholes and enclosed spaces
- Experience operating backhoe, Bobcat, etc.
- Able to work independently and without constant direct oversight to perform duties and responsibilities
- Able to perform basic mathematical and geometric functions as well as take measurements (including basic unit conversions)
This position will work outside for several hours daily, in various outdoor working and weather conditions. Subject to weekend and after-hours callback. Position normally works Monday through Friday.
If do not have, must obtain CDL within 6 months. If do not have water certifications, must obtain with 16 months of hire.
