Sturgis City Council has full agenda Monday

STURGIS - The Sturgis City Council will have a full agenda when it meets on Monday, March 18.

City Finance Officer Adam Hosch will certify the petitions presented to the city by Tammy Bohn and Brenda Vasknetz.

The petitions seek to refer to the voters of Sturgis the Sturgis City Council’s decision to sign the Spirit of Sturgis TT Race host agreement for this year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Sturgis Director of Communications Deb Holland said the council is considering all avenues available moving forward concerning the petitions.

The Council will also review the proposed ballot question already scheduled for the April 9 election concerning the employment of a city manager.

The question as proposed would read: SHOULD THE CITY MANAGER POSITION BE ELIMINATED FROM THE CITY OF STURGIS GOVERNMENT?

A vote “YES” would eliminate the City Manager position. A vote “NO” would keep the City Manager position and the current government would not change.

Out of an abundance of caution, the city’s interim management team wanted the ballot language to be discussed by the City Council. No council action is required.

The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. Monday when the council meets as a Board of Equalization. There are seven property owners appealing their property assessments. They include: David and Nikki Huggins, Marvin Nible, Darlene Conti, David Bauman and Kimberly Mattson, Bridger and Larissa Norstegaard, and Robin and Karlene Heidebrink.

Also at the meeting, Amanda Anglin, Executive Director of Sturgis Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) will provide a quarterly update.

And, Hosch will give the 2023 4th quarter financial report update.
