STURGIS – The Sturgis Community Center is in need of certified lifeguards.

Each year in order to staff for pool hours and for swimming lessons the Community Center needs about 10 lifeguards. Currently they only have five lifeguards, said Sturgis Community Center Director Rod Heikes. 

If you have an interest in becoming a certified lifeguard, the Community Center will be offering the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course May 31 - June 1.  

The registration deadline is May 18. The cost for the course is $100

The course includes a pre-course swimming requirement and in-person class session. Students must complete online coursework before attending classroom learning, pass written tests and complete all physical skills to pass.
