The City of Sturgis recently wrapped up its annual fall cleanup, giving residents the opportunity to clear out rubble before winter arrives.
This year’s effort once again showed strong community participation.
Crews collected a total of 1,596 cubic yards of material over the week, including 97 loads of rubble, 17 loads of metal, and 133 loads of branches. If billed directly, the rubble site fees would have totaled $23,940.
City staff and equipment were busy throughout the cleanup, with labor costs of $10,551.64 and equipment costs of $11,678.94, bringing the total cost of the effort to $22,229.94.
Public Works Director Rick Bush said the cleanup remains one of the city’s most appreciated services.
“It’s a great way to help residents clean up their properties, reduce fire hazards, and keep Sturgis looking its best heading into the winter."
