Individuals interested in running for mayor or the Ward 1 City Council seat in the upcoming June 2 Sturgis municipal special election may now pick up nominating petitions at Sturgis City Hall.
While petitions are available, candidates are reminded that circulation may not begin until April 3, in accordance with state law.
Candidates for mayor must obtain at least 50 valid signatures from registered voters from anywhere within the city to qualify for placement on the ballot. Candidates for the Ward 1 seat must gather 50 signatures from registered voters in their Ward to be placed on the ballot. Completed petitions must be returned to City Hall no later than 5 p.m. on May 1.
The June 2 election will fill the mayoral position and the Ward 1 council seat.
