City, county proclaim Kevin Forrester Day

STURGIS - The City of Sturgis and Meade County are jointly honoring the life and legacy of former Mayor Kevin Forrester with the official proclamation of “Kevin Forrester Day.”

Kevin Forrester Day will be observed on June 10, coinciding with the first Sturgis Music on Main event of the summer. The evening will serve as an opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate his legacy, and reflect on the impact he had on Sturgis and Meade County.

Tony Dargatz, Mayor Pro Tempore of the City of Sturgis, and Gary Deering, Meade County Commission Chair, read the proclamation on Thursday, April 2, which was posted to social media.

The Sturgis City Council will read the proclamation during its regular meeting on Monday, April 6, followed by a reading by the Meade County Commission on Tuesday, April 14.

Forrester, a lifelong Sturgis resident, served 28 years with Meade County as Facility Manager and IT Director. He was appointed to Sturgis City Council (Ward 4) to fill the seat vacated by Steve Keszler in 2021 and became Mayor of Sturgis following the resignation of Mayor Angela Wilkinson in October of 2024.

Throughout his career, he was known for his steady leadership, commitment to community, and a deep belief in the importance of public service.

As Mayor, Forrester worked to strengthen the community through thoughtful decision-making and a focus on long-term growth while preserving the character of Sturgis. His service extended beyond city government through regional and federal advisory roles, where he advocated for responsible stewardship of the Black Hills and access to its natural resources.

The proclamation recognizes not only his professional accomplishments, but also his dedication to family, his love of the outdoors, and his lasting impact on the people and community he served.
