Cardboard drop-off site moves to Sturgis Rubble Site

STURGIS – The City of Sturgis has relocated its public cardboard drop-off site to the Sturgis Rubble Site as part of an effort to better manage the recycling program and ensure it remains available for residents long term.

City officials say the move comes as the city has seen increased use of the cardboard collection site, particularly following the closure of similar collection locations in surrounding Black Hills communities. That increased volume has made the existing setup difficult to maintain.

The cardboard recycling program remains free for Sturgis residents with an active city utility account. Residents will be asked to present a current utility bill when using the site. Non-residents without an active utility account may still use the drop-off location but will be charged a minimum fee of $10.

The city says the relocation to the Rubble Site will allow staff to better oversee the program, reduce overflow issues and maintain a financially responsible recycling option for the community.

The City of Sturgis encourages residents to continue recycling cardboard and helping keep the community clean. Residents with questions may contact the Public Works Department at 605-347-3916.
