STURGIS – Sturgis Mayor Rod Bradley has appointed longtime public official Rhea Crane the new City Administrator, selecting a leader with nearly four decades of local government experience and deep ties to the Sturgis community.

Crane, who has served as Meade County Executive Director since 2022 and has more than 37 years of progressively advancing leadership experience in county government, was confirmed by the Sturgis City Council Monday, July 6, following the recommendation of Mayor Bradley.

Crane, a lifelong Meade County resident and graduate of Faith High School, said her career has always been centered on public service and helping communities work together to solve problems.

"I have spent my career serving the people of Meade County and the Sturgis area, and I am honored by the opportunity to serve my hometown in this new role," said Crane, a former Sturgis City Council member. "I believe strong local government is built on communication, accountability, and trust. I look forward to working alongside the mayor, city council, city staff, and our residents to continue moving Sturgis forward."

Bradley said Crane's extensive background in municipal and county operations made her the ideal choice to lead the city's day-to-day administration.

"Rhea brings an exceptional combination of leadership, financial experience, and institutional knowledge," Bradley said. "She has built a reputation for integrity, team building, and sound decision-making throughout her career. As someone who knows this community and has already served it in many capacities, she is well prepared to help guide the City of Sturgis into the future."

“Rhea has been an invaluable member of the Meade County team for many years”, said Gary Deering, Chairman of the Meade County Commission.  “Throughout her career, she has consistently stepped up to serve wherever the county has needed her.   She has approached everything with dedication, investing the time and effort necessary to master each task she was entrusted with.”

“Crane leaves big shoes to fill, and while we hate to see her go, we are excited for this next chapter in her career,” Deering said. “The City of Sturgis is gaining a dedicated public servant with an exceptional work ethic and a genuine commitment to serving others.”

Deering said that on behalf of the Meade County Commission, he wanted to thank Crane for her years of outstanding service, congratulate her on this well-deserved opportunity, and wish her nothing but continued success.

“I would also like to congratulate the city of Sturgis as they are gaining a tremendous employee who will no doubt serve its citizens with the same dedication as she has Meade County,” Deering said.

Crane currently serves as Meade County Executive Director and Director of Equalization. She was appointed Meade County Auditor and served in that capacity from October of 2023 to November of 2025 where she led major elections, improved financial accountability, strengthened administrative procedures, and provided continuity during periods of organizational transition.

Throughout her career, she has worked closely with elected officials, department heads, state agencies, and the public while overseeing budgets, personnel, contracts, and strategic initiatives.

In her letter expressing interest in the position, Crane said her leadership philosophy emphasizes communication, team building, and problem-solving, adding that successful local government depends on strong relationships among elected officials, staff, stakeholders, and residents. She also emphasized her commitment to responsible financial management, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.

Crane succeeds Aaron Jordan, who recently submitted his resignation after serving as the City's first City Administrator since January of 2025. Jordan will continue in the role through July 24, before retiring from public service. During his tenure, Jordan helped guide the city through its transition to a city administrator form of government, working closely with former Mayor Kevin Forrester, city council, and staff to strengthen city operations and position the organization for continued success.

"I look forward to continuing the progress being made in Sturgis," Crane said. "We have tremendous opportunities ahead, and I am excited to help the community continue to grow while maintaining the high level of service our residents expect."

Crane will begin serving as Sturgis City Administrator in mid-August.
