Project - 9th Street Bridge Replacement - Completed

On June 24, 2019, crews finished with the final clean up on the 9th Street Bridge.  Ninth Street was then reopened to traffic.
According to Sturgis Public Works Director, Rick Bush, the new bridge and bike path turned out great and provides a safe and improved access to the north side of town.

The 9th Street Bridge Replacement Project began on November 12, 2018.
This bridge is one of only four crossings over Bear Butte Channel.
This Project was included in the 2016-2020 Capital Improvement Plan.
Estimated cost $1,000,000.   Engineering and construction by independent contractors.
Completion is expected by June 1, 2019.

The bridge was showing significant signs of deterioration and wear due to age.

Cracks, holes, and areas where the entire surface had pulled away from the frame were visible.

The new bridge will have wider driving lanes and an 8' sidewalk/bike path on the west side.
