Community Garden

Application period is March 1 - 31, 2023

The Sturgis Community Garden Project began in 2012.  There are currently two garden areas that have been created to allow citizens who may not have room for a garden at their home or apartment a place to plant and raise produce.  The Sturgis Parks Department helps with tilling and water is available at both sites.  The plots are leased out each year for a nominal fee to cover the costs of water and insurance.  Both gardens are fenced and each garden area contains one shed for garden tools.  An application process is in place for those who would like to have a plot.

Fees:
City Park Garden 10' x 20' spot = $25
City Park 4' x 8' raised beds = $5
Ballpark Road Garden 4' x 8' raised beds = $5

The City Park Garden is located west of the soccer fields between Tom's T's and the City Park on Blanche Street.
The Ballpark Garden is located at 1061 Ballpark Road at the Arizona Street intersection.

Applications for the Community Garden are available at the Sturgis Finance Department located at City Hall or you can download the Registration form (application) and turn it into the Finance Office along with payment prior to March 31.   You must pay when you turn in your application.  If you are not awarded a spot, you will receive a full refund.  A kick-off meeting for all gardeners will be held later in the spring.

Community Garden Applications will be taken March 1-31 at the City Finance Office.  Those gardeners who had a spot the previous year will get preference for the same location.   Any spots not assigned will be allocated in a lottery-style drawing in mid-April.  To apply, simply download both the online Community Garden Registration Form and a copy of the Community Garden Rules.  Fill out the registration page and sign the Garden Rules.  Bring both forms to the City Finance Office with payment.  You may also pick up an application and copy of the Garden Rules at the Finance Office.
