Meeting Room Policy 

The Sturgis Public Library meeting rooms may be available for use by organizations, individuals, or businesses for educational,
cultural, or public service activities by reservation with a library staff person.

The library reserves the right to limit the use of the meeting rooms by any one group to best accommodate the many requests for the facilities.  The maximum time limit for use of any room is three (3) hours.

Private businesses/organizations outside of the Sturgis Public Library service area will be charged a $50.00 per hour fee to be paid with the room reservation request.  A cleaning deposit of $20.00 is required and will be refunded if rooms are left in pre-rental condition.  A $100 security/cleaning deposit is required at the time of reserving the kitchen and will be refunded if left in pre-rental condition.

Groups using library meeting rooms may not charge admission fees or sell products or materials.  Library meeting spaces will not be available for funeral, memorial services, or religious gatherings.

Community Rooms

The Community Room area is located on the first floor of the Library and is available for public events or receptions.  This area is best accessed from the Sherman Street entrance.  This area can be utilized as one large room (80 person capacity) or a center divider can be closed to make two smaller rooms (40 person capacity).  

A large flat-screen TV, microphones, and Wi-Fi are available on each side.   A kitchen is also available but is only accessible to the B side room when the divider is in place.  
Permission to use the kitchen must be requested when the room(s) are reserved.  Set up and take down of the area is the user's responsibility; exceptions will be made for those needing assistance.

When finished, users are asked to clean the area and to ensure that all individuals have left the building and that doors are securely locked.
Organizations will be expected to assume responsibility for any loss or damage incurred during or as a result of use. Food and drink are permissible with advanced permission.

Lushbough Room 

The Lushbough Room is located on the second floor of the Library and is accessible by stairs or the elevator.  This room is available for quiet study and meetings by individuals and small groups during regular Library hours.  Walk-ins are welcome but all users are asked to register at the circulation desk, and permission will be at the discretion of the Library staff.  The room may also be reserved in advance.  This room will accommodate up to 10 comfortably.

If a meeting is private, please inform the staff in advance as the staff and patrons may need access to the special collections housed in this room.

Refreshments are by special permission only.  Wi-Fi is available in this room, and a projector and screen are available with advanced notice.

2nd Floor Patio/Balcony  Library Patio.jpg

The 2nd Floor Patio/Balcony is available for meetings and personal use during normal Library hours.  This space is located on the second floor of the Library and is accessible by stairs and the elevator.
The balcony is only open during the summer months and when the weather permits.  Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are suggested for group use.

This area will seat approximately 14 people and has additional standing room for up to 70.  Refreshments are permitted with advanced permission.


Quiet Room

This room cannot be reserved ahead of time.  It is available by request from a library staff member, and door access will be assigned.

General use includes nursing mothers; a quiet area for fussy children or over-stimulated individuals; and for occasional cell phone conversations or online interviews.


Main Floor Study Room

The priority use of this room is for testing and staff proctoring.  Students studying or patrons needing to use their cell phones will be allowed to use the room if not scheduled for testing,
then it is open for computer use as needed.

This area will seat 2 to 4 people.


Organizations will be expected to assume responsibility for any loss or damage incurred during or as a result of use for any room.  Request a room reservation  online or call the Library at 347-2624 to check availability.
