Motorcycle Unit

Motorcycle Unit
The Sturgis Police Department started their motor patrol using a Kawasaki K100 for many years, now on display at the Motorcycle Museum .

In 1991, through a cooperative effort with Black Hills Harley Davidson , the department acquired Harley Davidson Road King motorcycles to use throughout the summer months.

Officer Training
Motor Officers must go through a rigorous 40-hour course, taught by Certified Motorcycle Instructor Officer Brent Tungesvik.  All officers that go through this training do so on a volunteer basis.  This course teaches the skills and techniques necessary to operate a motorcycle in a high traffic environment and parade functions.
