STURGIS – The Sturgis City Council has approved second reading of the updated residential camping ordinance, marking the final step before the new regulations take effect.
The ordinance will be published as required by law and will become effective June 4, following the standard waiting period. City officials say the update is intended to better align existing rules with current practices while addressing neighborhood impacts, safety, and sanitation.
Residents who plan to exceed the by-right allowances outlined in the ordinance will be required to obtain a permit. The city is currently finalizing that process, and the permit application will be available soon through the city’s CitizenServe website at https://tinyurl.com/s7wnjwmy
City staff note that the first year of implementation will include an educational component, with an emphasis on helping residents understand the new requirements.
More information, including how to apply for a permit, will be shared once the CitizenServe application is live. For questions, or to get a hard copy of the permit before it goes live online, call the Public Works Department at 605-347-3916.
