Mission Statement
To enhance the City’s environmental services by bringing the highest water quality to its citizens and managing the public’s utilities by being accessible, cost-effective, and efficient.

Water System and Water Operators Responsibilities
The Operations Department is located within the Sturgis Public Works complex at 1057 Dudley Street (see contact information on the right).

The Water Department carries out the operating function of the water system, including wells and pumps, chemical feeds, water storage facilities, and distribution system, which includes all pumping stations, reducing stations, mains, hydrants, and valves.

The water operators are responsible for repairs to the existing system and some construction work for system expansion or improvements. They perform repairs on all existing water distribution valves and piping as needed. They are responsible for new taps and the proper recording of the information for future locations.

The water operator provides water testing and maintains records on all wells and the distribution system as required by DENR as mandated by the EPA Drinking Water & Clean Water Act. All water operators must work alternate weekends and holidays and serve on an on-call basis.

Utility Billing and Account Services
The Water & Utility Billing Office is located within the City Finance Office at Sturgis City Hall. Hours are 7 am-6 pm Monday through Thursday, and the office is CLOSED on Fridays. There are 24-hour payment drop boxes located outside the front door at City Hall and in front of the Sturgis Community Center. Please visit the utility billing page for information related to rates, new accounts, payment methods, and water service requests (turn on/off requests).

About the Municipal Utilities Board (MUB):  The City’s utility operations are managed by the Municipal Utilities Board. The Board consists of three representatives that meet once a month.
